What is BasicMed?
BasicMed is an alternative way for eligible pilots to fly without holding a current FAA medical certificate, provided they meet the FAA requirements.
Who may qualify for BasicMed?

What aircraft may I fly under BasicMed?
A covered aircraft must be authorized to carry no more than seven occupants and have a maximum certificated takeoff weight of no more than 12,500 pounds.
What are the operating limits?
You may carry no more than six passengers, operate at or below 18,000 feet MSL and no faster than 250 knots indicated airspeed, and may not operate for compensation or hire. Review the FAA guidance for all applicable limits.
Do any medical conditions require FAA special issuance?
Yes. Certain cardiovascular, neurological, mental-health, and substance-dependence histories require a one-time FAA special issuance before operating under BasicMed. Contact the FAA or AOPA if you are unsure.
Do I send the completed CMEC to the FAA?
Normally, no. Keep the completed CMEC and course-completion certificate in your pilot logbook or a secure, accurate electronic format and provide them if the FAA requests them.
